The Magic of Connection

This collection – The Magic of Connection – shows the first time that I stepped off the canvas.

I had been making small sculptures and covering the walls and floors in my studio with different found and created objects for a while. So this time I re-created what was happening all over my studio within the gallery context.

I placed two long tables down the middle of the gallery – this became a platform for my funny combinations to sit on.

An old paint covered spoon sat next to a soap which sat next to a jar filled with liquid paint.

All of these seemingly disparate objects connected to each other in some way – be that through colour, texture or shape.

The Magic of Connection presented a way of seeing – the way in which I see the world as a set of relationships. These relationships mirrored the relationships that exist in painting.

I ‘worked’ the room in the same way that I would work a painting – creating moments of tension and interest, placing complimentary and jarring colours next to each other.

Considering the whole space as a painting and creating an intriguing environment for people to explore.
